What is Volumetrics?
Volumetrics by Barbara Rolls, Ph.D, is a calorie counting diet that adheres to the age-old principal that you can only lose weight by eating fewer calories than your body uses.
How does Volumetrics work?
Rolls advises dieters to become "calorie bargain hunters" by choosing foods that can be eaten in volume but only put a small dent in your calorie budget. Such as replacing buttery mashed potatoes and gravy with a low-calorie potato salad or fried chicken with a roasted chicken breast.
What does research say?
As a longtime academic who has headed the Laboratory for the Study of Human Ingestive Behavior at The Pennsylvania State University since 1992, Rolls aided in publishing numerous studies that have topics in line with her book. "Our studies have led to better understanding of which foods can help curb hunger without adding extra calories," Rolls writes in her latest book.
